Chevy fans who are looking to drive an all-electric vehicle can look forward to new EV models that the automaker will release in the coming years. In January, CEO Mary Barra announced that the company is working hard to become an all-electric automaker by 2035. The gas-powered models currently sold by the manufacturer will gradually be phased out.
This recent announcement includes manufacturing electric GMC Sierra heavy-duty models without reducing their hauling and towing capabilities. The light-duty trucks will become all-electric by 2035, and the heavy-duty trucks are scheduled to become electric by 2040. GM has announced that the heavy-duty EV trucks will also be released in 2035 as the production timeframe has been moved up. The changes made to these gas-powered models may include a price increase.
The Chevy Blazer EV is one of the upcoming electric models that the manufacturer will release in 2023. By 2024, drivers can purchase the electric light-dutyChevy Silverado EV, which will have a range of 400 miles. The base model of some of these pickup trucks may start at $39,900.
Five of the plants owned by GM in North America will be used to manufacture electric vehicles. These plants are located in Ontario, Canada, Spring Hill, Tennessee, Hamtramck, Orion Assembly in Orion Township, Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico, and Factory ZERO in Detroit and Hamtramck. GM is ready to bargain with the union at the plants as they move forward with producing EV vehicles.
The Ultrium battery platform that GM uses is what has given the company confidence to move forward at a faster speed manufacturing electric pickup trucks. This technology will be used in 30 different GM vehicles by 2025.
Not only do these models come with a battery, but they also feature bold and expressive designs on the exterior. The sneak peeks that have been provided by Marra boast eye-catching vehicles that look similar to Tesla models.
The changes and plans of GM are a $35 billion investment that Marra hopes will help the company become more competitive. Although GM's sales were slow in the past, this is one of the main changes that can help the company take the lead over companies like Tesla and Volkswagen.
Some consumers have already paid $100 to reserve the new RST First Edition of the Chevy Silverado. The $105,000 model will become available in the fall of 2023 and is available to reserve directly on Chevy's website.
