In celebration of America's 250th birthday this year, Chevrolet executed a high-speed tribute at the world-renowned Indianapolis 500. On May 23, 2026, the legendary automotive brand utilized the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to highlight the deep history shared between the manufacturer and the nation.

Chevrolet in Indianapolis to Celebrate America's 250th

Chevrolet provided a visual display that captivated racing fans at the Indianapolis 500. The trackside layout featured 250 large, illuminated candles lined up along the asphalt. Software engineer Cody Bulkley piloted the performance vehicle, using its raw capabilities to extinguish all 250 candles in record-breaking time.

The memorable occasion drew praise from leadership, including the Vice President of Global Chevrolet. "Resilience, pride, and work ethic of America have driven our nation forward for 250 years. For nearly 115 years, Chevrolet has been ingrained in America's story," Bell commented. Pointing out the car's symbolic role, Bell noted, "Corvette has long been a symbol of the American dream, so it is a privilege to celebrate this moment at the Racing Capital of the World by having Corvette ZR1X blow out 250 candles in a display of power and precision."

This racetrack event is part of a larger, year-long effort by the manufacturer to celebrate the nation's semiquincentennial. Key highlights include the release of the limited-edition Stars & Steel Collection, celebrating domestic vehicle craftsmanship. They have also modernized the classic 1950s "See the USA in your Chevrolet" commercial jingle, yielding excellent reception. Chevrolet will continue celebrating its rich heritage throughout the year as it prepares for its next chapter of industry leadership.
