Available in sedan and hatchback body styles, the 2017 Sonic can seat up to five passengers. It is offered in three trims: LS (sedan only), LT and Premier. Standard features on the LS include 15-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, power locks, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity.

The LT gets all of the above, plus 16-inch alloy wheels, chrome exterior accents and cruise control. A six-speaker sound system, satellite radio and a second USB port are also offered as standard gear on the LT. Premier models get 17-inch alloys, a sport-tuned suspension and simulated sued seat inserts. Both of these two higher-end models also get a sport exhaust and a body kit, giving them extra pizzazz.

The 2017 Chevy Sonic in Kansas City is powered by a standard 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 138 horsepower. There's also an optional 1.4-liter turbocharger that makes the same amount of horsepower. However, the turbo offers a little more power by being able to achieve up to 148 pound-feet of torque, while the standard engine can generate up to 125 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual is standard, and a six-speed automatic transmission is optional.

Several 2017 Chevy Sonic reviews applaud the car's standard safety systems, which include traction and stability control, ABS and 10 airbags. Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning are available on the LT and Premier. Sonic buyers will also get the benefits of OnStar, which provides roadside assistance, automatic crash notification and remote door unlocking.
