What's New for the 2018 Chevrolet Sonic?

The 2018 Chevy Sonic is the Chevy company's newest vehicle to be released and their latest in the Sonic model series. The new Chevy Sonic is a smaller subcompact vehicle and is similarly compared to other vehicles having been released. For this year, the Sonic has been given a more updated version of the MyLink infotainment system as well as a second USB port on the interior.

2018 Sonic Stylish Interior and Features

The 2018 Sonic, being new, has its own set of trim levels and special features and amenities that come with it. The Sonic has only three trim levels with it this year: the LS, LT and Premier models. The LS trim is the basic standard trim for the Sonic and contains all of the basic features such as 15-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights and a remote locking and unlocking control system. The LT model is a bit more upgraded that the LS, complete with features like 15-inch alloy wheels, power windows, heated mirror settings, cloth upholstery on the interior and a six-speaker stereo system. This trim also comes in packages, such as the Convenience package, which has heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with heating accessories. The RS package has better styling for the exterior and interior and the "Fun and Sun" package has a sunroof and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Premier trim model has 17-inch wheels, special simulated leather upholstery, heated front seats, driver's seat with power adjustments and a heated steering wheel, though this is available only with an automatic transmission.

Performance Matched by Fuel Economy

The 2018 Chevy Sonic has been outfitted with an engine that matches its strength and sheer size. Because the Sonic is a somewhat smaller vehicle than most, the engine is suited for it, coming with a 138 horsepower rating at up to 6,300 wheel rotations per minute and being able to produce 125 feet by pounds of torque. The engine contains inline 4 cylinders with variable valve timing and a front wheel drive train with a 5-speed manual transmission. The car runs primarily on regular gasoline, with a fuel economy of 28 combined miles per gallon, getting 25 MPG when riding through the city and 34 MPG when on the highway.

Safer on the Road

2018 Chevrolet Sonic RearThe Chevy Sonic is a new vehicle and for that reason, it has been given a ton of safety features and improvements made over the last year. As far as car safety goes, the Sonic is no exception to driver and passenger security, starting with child passengers who have child seating anchors and rear door safety locks to keep them safe. The Sonic also has things such as a tire pressure monitoring system to keep track of tire pressure. Stability and traction have all been improved, as shown in a 4-wheel ABS system and a new engine immobilizer. Auto delay off headlights are available in order to save power and dusk-sensing headlights are also included, meaning they can detect the time of day and allow the driver to adjust accordingly. Finally, an emergency braking assist system is available in the event of a brake failure.
