Environment Sustainability

Bridging the Gap came to fruition in 1992 when a small group of people got together in hopes of creating a recycling program in the area. More than 20 different recycling centers were built, along with a curbside recycling endeavor. As the years have gone on, Bridging the Gap has gained some very generous donors that help keep this mission going. To date, this is one of the most diverse environmental programs in the U.S. The group's goal is to connect the environment with the economy and community in Kansas City, made possible thanks to the 1,500 volunteers contributing to this cause each year.

Each year, community outreach includes events and activities such as:

  • Litter clean-ups
  • Environmental education
  • Tree planting
  • Conserving ecosystems in the Kansas City area
  • Installation of rain barrels
  • Holding a minimum of 100 events per year
