The History of Chevrolet

William C. Durant founded the Chevrolet Motor Company in 1911. By 1918, GM acquired the company, and the rest is history. Durant's vision was simple. Another early leader of the Chevrolet brand envisioned "a car for every purse and purpose," focusing heavily on pricing and the idea that each hard-working American deserved to own a dependable vehicle.

From the Original Bowtie to the All-Electric Pickup

Chevrolet's history is extensive, and no automaker in America was better suited to make that journey than Chevy. A few years after its formation, Chevrolet Motor Company adopted the iconic bowtie emblem, which still proudly adorns Chevrolet vehicles today. In the 1950s and 1960s, Chevrolet came into its own as an industry leader and legend. Their willingness to innovate and the variety of their designs resonated deeply with the public.

Models like the Bel Air and Corvette played significant roles in why the Chevrolet name is still respected today. These early models sparked an enthusiasm for driving that went beyond mere transportation. The Corvette remains one of the most formidable names in sports cars and now offers modern buyers up to 670 horsepower, a far cry from the first Corvette's 150 horsepower. Yet those early Corvettes marked a turning point for car enthusiasts, showing that cars could be more than just practical—they could be fun.

Many Chevrolet cars from the '60s and '70s are still recognizable today: the Vega, the Camaro, and the Monte Carlo. The Camaro remains a modern vehicle with updated specifications. Other models like the Monte Carlo and Vega are now found in used form and are no longer in production. Chevrolet continues to innovate in the modern era with their first all-electric Silverado pickup truck and other inspiring designs like the Traverse and Malibu. It's incredible to think that all this success dates back over 100 years. Chevrolet serves as a reminder that good things in life tend to endure.
